Film
Saul Metzstein was commissioned to make two films that featured in the exhibition and selections from these films can be viewed below. A further film ‘Portraits’ was produced by ISO (no preview available).
‘Slide In’, Saul Metzstein (45 mins)
This film is based on events attended by Andy MacMillan and Isi Metzstein at Glasgow School of Art in which they were presented with an unseen collection of images, chosen by exhibition curator Mark Baines, which they then discuss. This format allowed MacMillan and Metzstein to talk freely about what inspired them in their work but also what they were reacting against. It was filmed on 12th April 2007 in the Mackintosh Library at the Glasgow School of Art.
‘Lessons in Architecture’, Saul Metzstein (63 mins)
This film consisted of a three-way conversation between Mark Cousins, Andy MacMillan and Isi Metzstein. It is interspersed with six illustrated mini-lectures (‘Lessons’) by MacMillan and Metzstein that explore themes within their architecture. The location of filming was crucial - Robinson College, Cambridge, is not only GKC’s biggest project, it also represents the culmination of the ideas GKC explored in the post-war period. It is their last significant built-work, and arguably their greatest building. The conversation was filmed in the chapel of Robinson College Cambridge on 10th May 2007.
‘Portraits’ (8 mins)
Filmed on location at Wadham Library in Oxford, Round Riding Sheltered Housing in Dumbarton and St Patrick’s church Kilsyth during June 2007, the film featured the views, experiences and stories of a librarian, a pensioner and a priest who live and work in the buildings. The film was a vital element in depicting the views of the users of these well loved buildings to the visiting public.
